Breaking News: Michigan State Lands Super Commitment For a Highly Regarded 2025 Combo Guard

Tom Izzo has had a busy offseason, and he’s steadily building another strong Michigan State basketball squad that could contend for a second consecutive Big Ten title in 2025–26.

Although Purdue currently leads the pack in the conference, Michigan State is right behind them.

The Spartans have seen several key departures this offseason, including Tre Holloman, Jaden Akins, Frankie Fidler, Szymon Zapala, Xavier Booker, Gehrig Normand, and Jase Richardson. However, they’ve also made some solid additions—Trey Fort and Kaleb Glenn via the transfer portal, and Cam Ward and Jordan Scott from the 2025 recruiting class.

There’s still room—and a definite need—for one more player, ideally in the backcourt.

With Holloman, Akins, and Richardson gone, the backcourt depth has taken a hit. Right now, only Jeremy Fears Jr. and Kur Teng return, with Fort joining the mix. Another combo guard or a backup point guard would round out the roster. While Izzo mentioned that Richardson hasn’t ruled out a return, it seems unlikely. But an intriguing new option has emerged.

Highly regarded 2025 combo guard announced his decommitment from UConn.

Why does this matter?

Michigan State finished as the runner-up in Adams’ original recruitment before he chose UConn last fall, suggesting that a strong connection already exists. With Adams back on the market and MSU in need of backcourt reinforcements, this could be a perfect match.

Adams is a 6-foot-5, 165-pound combo guard from La Lumiere in Indiana and currently ranks as the No. 23 overall player in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Early buzz suggests Alabama and Tennessee—another finalist in his initial recruitment—are already showing interest. But Michigan State should absolutely be in the mix. If Izzo makes a move, Adams could be the missing piece to push the Spartans over the top in their Big Ten title quest.
