The Michigan State basketball coaching staff has been busy this offseason, working to replace key departures like Tre Holloman, Jase Richardson, and Jaden Akins. At the same time, Tom Izzo and his team are keeping an eye on the future.
While many programs have already finalized their rosters for next season, Michigan State is still looking to add one more player — and both the staff and fans are hoping that player will be highly sought after prospect.
In the meantime, a report says the staff will also be traveling to Lithuania to scout international prospects.
According to Michigan State Content (@msucontent) on April 26, 2025:
“Hearing Michigan State is visiting Darius Adams tomorrow.
Also hearing some of the staff is headed to Lithuania to look at some international guys.”
After verifying the credibility of the report, it seems the source is highly trustworthy and very close to the program. While I’m a bit skeptical about the report of Adams being visited — since he’s also touring Maryland and Georgetown this weekend — there does seem to be legitimate buzz about Michigan State looking at international prospects.
International players have made a major impact in college basketball lately, like Kasparas Jakucionis at Illinois this past season.
Michigan State has had its share of international players in the past — Erazem Lorbek, Tum Tum Nairn, Mady Sissoko, Szymon Zapala, and Idong Ibok — but none have been quite as impactful as Jakucionis. Plus, Tum Tum, Sissoko, and Zapala actually played high school basketball in the U.S., so they weren’t pure international recruits like the ones the Spartans are targeting now.
Adams remains the top priority for the staff, but it’s exciting to see them exploring the international talent pool, which could significantly boost the program.
