Kings’ Coaching Overhaul Adds Intrigue to an Already Eventful Offseason

The Sacramento Kings’ eventful offseason took another turn this week as the franchise began reshaping its coaching staff under newly appointed head coach Doug Christie. Sources told NBC Sports California on Saturday that the team is parting ways with lead assistant Jay Triano and several other assistant coaches, signaling a fresh start on the bench as the Kings prepare for the 2025–26 season.

Triano, a respected basketball mind with decades of NBA and international experience, had been a key part of the Kings’ resurgence since joining the staff in 2022. He played a vital role during Sacramento’s breakout 2022–23 campaign, when the team ended its 17-year playoff drought and clinched the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. After Jordi Fernandez left to become head coach of the Brooklyn Nets, Triano was elevated to associate head coach—making Friday’s news that much more surprising.

While several assistants are out, not everyone is heading for the exits. Dipesh Mistry and Stephane Ingo will remain with the organization, according to NBC Sports California. Mistry, who has worn many hats since joining in 2023, most recently worked as head video coordinator and player development coach. Ingo, a newer addition, served as a video coordinator this past season. The Kings are also retaining former NBA guard Leandro Barbosa, a fan favorite who has been with the staff since 2022 and is expected to play a prominent role on Christie’s revamped bench.

With Christie getting the opportunity to handpick his own assistants for the first time, the Kings are clearly embracing change. After two seasons of progress but postseason frustration, this coaching shake-up reflects a larger organizational push to reset and retool for a deeper playoff run. One thing is certain—Sacramento’s offseason is far from quiet, and all eyes will be on how this new-look staff comes together ahead of a pivotal season.
