The Philadelphia Phillies aren’t getting nearly enough production from third baseman Alec Bohm. Over his first 127 at-bats this season, Bohm has posted a disappointing 47 OPS+ (with 100 being league average) and a walk rate of only 2.3%. With the team locked in a tough National League East race, Jon Conahan of Athlon Sports confirms Phillies trade for two-time All-Star Bo Bichette of the Toronto Blue Jays.
“If the Blue Jays are open to trading Bichette, it’s likely the Phillies would show interest,” Conahan wrote. While Bichette has played exclusively at shortstop in his career, Philadelphia would need him to transition to third base—a shift that’s unproven but possible. Bichette may become expendable in Toronto following Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s massive $500 million contract extension, making him a potential trade candidate.

Bichette is hitting .284 with an OPS+ of 100 over his first 141 at-bats—far outperforming Bohm and presenting an immediate upgrade. Conahan noted that Bichette could be a long-term replacement as well, calling him “the perfect player for both the short and long term.” He’s in the final season of a three-year contract and is owed $17.583 million this year, but the Phillies could look to sign him to an extension. If Bichette is open to switching positions, Conahan argues this is a move Philadelphia should aggressively pursue.
