SAD NEWS: The Reds Suffer Another Terrible New Injury

A brutal moment for Reds rookie Tyler Callihan occurred Monday night when he suffered a severe arm injury attempting a diving catch — and the video is hard to stomach.

The injury happened in the third inning of Cincinnati’s game against the Braves at Truist Park in Atlanta, as Matt Olson launched a deep fly ball to left field.

Callihan raced from his spot in the outfield in an effort to make the catch, and while he briefly had the ball in his glove, it came loose after he collided with a nearby wall and fractured his arm.

Team trainers rushed to assist the 24-year-old, and play was temporarily halted as he was helped off the field.

He was later diagnosed with a broken forearm, and the Reds took to X Monday night to wish him “a speedy recovery.”

Reds rookie Tyler Callihan suffered a brutal injury Monday night while trying to make a highlight-reel play against the Braves — and the footage isn’t easy to watch.

The incident occurred in the third inning at Truist Park, when Braves slugger Matt Olson hit a deep fly ball to left field. Callihan sprinted to make the catch and initially appeared to secure it, but crashed into the wall, causing the ball to pop loose and, more seriously, leaving him with a fractured forearm.

Medical staff quickly rushed to his aid, and the game paused briefly as the 24-year-old was helped off the field. The Reds later confirmed the broken forearm and shared well wishes for his recovery on social media.

To make matters worse, Olson was able to circle the bases for a two-run, inside-the-park home run after the dropped ball — helping lift Atlanta to a 4-0 victory.

Cincinnati will try to bounce back in Game 2 of the series on Tuesday afternoon, but it’ll be a while before Callihan gets his shot at redemption. Wishing him a full and speedy recovery.
