Over the weekend, the Sacramento Kings overhauled their coaching staff—though the head coach remains in place—by dismissing five assistant coaches from the 2024-25 NBA season, including lead assistant Jay Triano and Jawad Williams.
With several openings to address, the team revealed that one of those positions would be taken by a former NBA Champion.
The first vacancy filled on the Kings’ coaching staff is the lead assistant role under head coach Doug Christie. Sacramento secured one of the most accomplished available coaches by hiring veteran star.
He brings even more experience to the table than Jay Triano. After a playing career that spanned over a decade (1980–1991), he began coaching in 1996 and spent 25 years in the NBA, including head coaching roles with the Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks. He later transitioned to college basketball, serving as head coach at Indiana University for four seasons before stepping down at the end of this year.
Joining him on Doug Christie’s staff is former Kings fan favorite Bobby Jackson. A dynamic guard during his playing days, Jackson spent 12 seasons in the NBA—six with Sacramento—where he averaged 10.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.0 steal per game on 53.2% true shooting. Since retiring, Jackson has coached at multiple levels: he was an assistant with the Kings from 2011–13, led the Stockton Kings in the G-League from 2021–23, and most recently served as an assistant with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Additionally, general manager Scott Perry has brought on his podcast co-host, B.J. Armstrong, as assistant GM. A three-time NBA champion with the Chicago Bulls, Armstrong played 11 seasons in the league. After retiring, he took on a front office role with the Bulls, eventually transitioning into scouting. Later, he became a player agent with Wasserman Media Group, representing notable names like Derrick Rose and JaVale McGee. More recently, he co-hosted the Hoop Genius Podcast with Perry.
