Just In: Phillies Confirms Major Decision Regarding Starting Pitchers Ahead Of Crucial Matchup

Following the postponement of last game, the Phillies revealed their starting pitchers for doubleheader, and the selections came as no surprise.

Top veteran, the left-hander originally slated to start, will pitch the first game of the doubleheader against the Cardinals at Citizens Bank Park. Aaron Nola, who was already scheduled for Wednesday, will take the mound for the second game.

The Cardinals have yet to announce their starters. Sonny Gray had been listed as Tuesday’s probable starter, while Erick Fedde was lined up for Wednesday prior to the rain delay.

After St. Louis took the series opener on Monday, the Phillies and Cardinals will now wrap up their three-game set with Wednesday’s split doubleheader. The games are scheduled for 1:05 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. ET. According to the Phillies, tickets for Tuesday’s postponed game will be valid for the evening contest, and gates will open at 5:15 p.m. for Game 2.

Jesús Luzardo has been outstanding in his debut season with the Phillies after being acquired in an offseason trade from the Marlins. He currently leads the National League with a 2.1 WAR and owns a 2.11 ERA over eight starts, logging 47 innings. The Phillies have posted a 6-2 record in his outings, and Luzardo has arguably been the standout arm in a rotation packed with elite talent.

Meanwhile, Aaron Nola is looking to rebound from an inconsistent start to the year. After opening the season with an 0-5 record, the veteran right-hander put together two solid performances before struggling again last Friday. He carries a 4.89 ERA through eight starts—showing strong strikeout numbers but also dealing with issues keeping the ball in the park. Wednesday’s outing gives Nola a chance to prove he’s still finding his form despite the recent setback.
