Breaking: Rangers Key Star Reveals Zero Intention of Working With Mike Sullivan And Confirms He Wants to Leave

After failing to reach the postseason, the New York Rangers may be gearing up for significant roster changes this offseason.

Key veterans Artemi Panarin, Chris Kreider, and Mika Zibanejad have all been mentioned in trade discussions dating back to last season. According to NHL insider Arthur Staple of The Athletic, one potential move involves Kreider being traded to a division rival.

Staple floated the idea of dealing Kreider to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for two third-round draft picks.

Kreider, who still has two years remaining on his seven-year, $45.5 million contract, could be a strong addition for Columbus, offering top-six forward potential and offensive production. He tallied 22 goals and 8 assists over 68 games last season.

“Drury has shown he can move contracts without retaining salary,” Staple noted. “If Kreider hasn’t listed Columbus among his 15 no-trade teams, the Blue Jackets could be drawn to his leadership and power-play presence on their youthful roster. The main goal here would be clearing cap space and opening up a roster spot, not securing a big return.”

Rangers Expected to Actively Shop Kreider

Though Kreider has been a cornerstone of the Rangers for years, his future with the team appears uncertain.

NHL insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reported that Rangers GM Chris Drury plans to revisit trade talks involving Kreider, who has a 15-team no-trade clause. At 34 years old (as of April 30), Kreider has two years left on his deal, with $5 million owed in salary each season. Injuries may have prevented a deal during the season, but the team seems ready to explore options again.

Kreider has been with the Rangers since they selected him in the first round of the 2009 NHL Draft and has spent his entire NHL career in New York.

Kreider Hopes to Stay in New York

Despite the swirling trade rumors, Kreider remains committed to the Rangers and hopes to remain with the team.

“This is home,” he said at the end of the season. “This organization gave me the chance to live my dream. I’ve built meaningful relationships here and grown up in this city. I want to be part of the group that wins hockey games here.”

Throughout his career, Kreider has scored 326 goals in 883 NHL games and is a two-time All-Star.
