BREAKING: Packers HC Matt LaFleur Makes Announcement On ‘Massive’ Player Joining This Week

The Green Bay Packers may appear to have their 2025 NFL roster mostly finalized, but they could still make additional moves. Star cornerback Jaire Alexander, a two-time Pro Bowler, has been absent from the team’s voluntary workouts, reportedly due to ongoing tension with the front office and uncertainty about his return.

Regardless of Alexander’s status, the Packers remain confident in their cornerback depth. They retain Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine, brought in Nate Hobbs through free agency, and are optimistic about the development of 2024 seventh-round pick Kalen King and 2025 seventh-rounder Micah Robinson.

However, one position where the team may still be looking to bolster talent is along the defensive line.

The Green Bay Packers Were Not Good Rushing Opposing Quarterbacks in 2024

Last season, Green Bay ranked in the top ten for team sacks with a total of 45. However, a third of those—15 sacks—came from just two games: eight against the Colts early in the year and seven versus the Seahawks late in the season.

To bolster their pass rush, the Packers selected a couple of edge defenders in the 2025 NFL Draft—Barryn Sorrell in the fourth round and Collin Oliver in the fifth. They also picked up defensive tackle Warren Brinson in the sixth.

The team is counting on this young talent, along with expected development from Kingsley Enagbare and former first-rounder Lukas Van Ness, to help support Pro Bowl pass rusher Rashan Gary.

Still, head coach Matt LaFleur recently suggested he’s open to adding more talent to the group—and may already have a particular player in mind.

Hendrickson returns to recent practice amid contract issues

Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur May Want Trey Hendrickson

On Tuesday, Coach Matt LaFleur appeared on the “Up and Adams” podcast, hosted by Kay Adams — a figure well-known among Packers fans online for being the first to connect Green Bay with safety Xavier McKinney before he joined the team last offseason.

During the conversation, LaFleur expressed his eagerness to bolster the defense with another top-tier pass rusher, stating:

“If it were up to me, we’d never say no to elite talent. I’ll definitely be in \[GM Brian] Gutekunst and Russ Ball’s ears, telling them to do whatever it takes to bring in as many high-level players as they can. Great players make coaches look better — the more talent you have, the better your coaching looks.”

LaFleur’s remarks come amid growing speculation linking the Packers to Bengals star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson, who has reportedly requested a trade.

Hendrickson is coming off a dominant season in which he led the NFL with 17.5 sacks and finished second in the Defensive Player of the Year voting.
