The Philadelphia Eagles wasted no time taking a jab at one of their NFC rivals following the announcement that the controversial “Tush Push” play will remain legal. Despite ongoing complaints from opposing teams, NFL owners voted against a rule change on Wednesday that would have outlawed the signature Eagles move.
NFL insider Ari Meirov revealed that the proposal to ban the play didn’t get enough support to pass.
Not long after the decision was announced, the Eagles posted on social media, targeting the Green Bay Packers — one of the leading voices pushing to eliminate the play.
Eagles Waste No Time Trolling the Packers After the Tush Push Ban Failed
The post featured the Eagles setting up the Tush Push against Green Bay with the caption, “Push On,” clearly aimed at trolling the Packers.
The move came as a surprise to many, given that momentum had been building for a ban. In fact, earlier in the week, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported that the change was almost certain to happen.
What caused the shift in support is unclear, but the end result is a clear victory for the Eagles — and a stinging defeat for the Packers.
Philadelphia already defeated Green Bay twice last season, including a playoff win. The Packers’ efforts to ban a play they couldn’t stop only added to the embarrassment, and now that their campaign has failed, they’ll have to find a way to stop it on the field.
Until then, as the Eagles put it, “Push on.”
