Assuming the Sacramento Kings intend to keep their core group together this offseason and make a push to compete with DeMar DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Domantas Sabonis, it’s evident they need a true point guard.
Having previously traded away Tyrese Haliburton and acquired Domantas Sabonis, the Kings might wish they could reverse one of those moves. Nonetheless, they’re in a position to pursue a point guard via trade.
Armed with draft assets, Keegan Murray, and Jonas Valančiūnas as potential trade pieces, Sacramento could be a sleeper team to watch this offseason—and it appears they’ve zeroed in on a specific trade target.
According to ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel, the Sacramento Kings have shown interest in veteran guard. However, the key uncertainty is whether the Boston Celtics will make him available in trade discussions. New Kings GM Scott Perry has emphasized the team’s need for a true point guard, and sources note that he was a longtime admirer of top star during his tenure with the New York Knicks.
This won’t be the first time Scott Perry has pursued veteran guard.
“Perry had interest in acquiring Holiday during his time with the Knicks, prior to Holiday being traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2020,” Siegel concluded. “Now, Sacramento heads into the offseason facing key decisions regarding DeMar DeRozan’s future with the team.”
With the Boston Celtics looking to trim their payroll, Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis have emerged as the most likely trade candidates. Holiday addresses a key need for the Kings, bringing defensive strength and aligning well with their current competitive window. The challenge will be whether Sacramento can put together a better offer than other interested teams.
