The Detroit Tigers have optioned outfielder to Triple-A Toledo, creating space on the roster for right-hander to return from the injured list.
Top star, who was called up on May 14 to replace struggling rookie Jace Jung, went just 2-for-17 in his 10-day stint with the big-league team.
The 26-year-old was originally picked up in the Rule 5 Draft and made a splash as a rookie in 2021, but has since struggled to find consistency. He spent time bouncing between Detroit and Triple-A during the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
After being designated for assignment last December and clearing waivers, Baddoo remained in the organization. He had surgery for a fractured wrist in February but performed well at the plate in Toledo following his recovery.
Mize, 28, returns after missing the minimum 15 days with a mild hamstring strain in his left leg.
The former No. 1 overall pick in 2018 has been enjoying the best stretch of his career, earning a spot in the rotation out of spring training. In seven starts, he’s posted a 6-1 record with a 2.53 ERA (3.93 FIP), tallying 35 strikeouts and just nine walks over 42 2/3 innings.
