Breaking News: Packers Make Major Jaire Alexander Move

During the 2025 NFL offseason, the Green Bay Packers and Jaire Alexander have frequently been the subject of trade rumors. At one point, it appeared likely that the two sides would part ways, with many viewing it as an inevitable split. However, a recent report has reignited optimism among fans hoping to see the veteran star cornerback remain with the team. According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, the Packers have extended a restructured contract offer to Alexander that would keep him in Green Bay for the 2025 season.

The Packers want to retain Alexander, but only at a reduced cost. Earlier this month, it was reported that Alexander would stay away from team activities until a resolution was reached, in whatever form that may take. That decision could lead to fines if it extends into June’s mandatory minicamp. However, according to reporter Matt Schneidman, Alexander is expected to attend team activities before minicamp, even though his future is still unresolved.

Since no deal has been struck following the restructure offer, all options remain possible—including a trade or release. Alexander would reportedly prefer a release, as it would let him choose his next team in free agency.

When healthy, Alexander has consistently been among the NFL’s elite cornerbacks. But injuries have been an issue: he played just four games in 2021 and seven games in each of the last two seasons. Given his limited availability, his upcoming cap hits—\$24.64 million in 2025 and \$27.02 million in 2026—are a heavy burden for the Packers. A reworked deal would likely include reduced salaries and new guaranteed money, since his current contract includes no guaranteed base salary.

Financially, a post–June 1 trade or release would be more favorable for the Packers, and that option will remain viable until the situation is resolved. Still, today’s update shows that Green Bay is aiming to keep Alexander on the roster for at least one more season.
