With the NBA Finals set to begin, the offseason is quickly approaching, and the Sacramento Kings are expected to be active with several important moves.
After a frustrating season in which they finished ninth in the Western Conference and missed the playoffs following a Play-In Tournament loss to the Dallas Mavericks, the Kings now face some critical roster decisions.
One position they’ll need to address this summer is point guard, which stands out as a key area for improvement. Of course, the Kings traded away their star point guard De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs at the trade deadline, and afterward, they relied on Malik Monk and Keon Ellis to fill the starting role for the rest of the season.
Although both Keon Ellis and Malik Monk performed well as the Kings’ starting point guards, it’s evident that Sacramento needs to bring in another option this offseason due to their lack of depth at the position.
According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Kings are eyeing several point guards, with veteran star emerging as a notable target.
“Among several point guards on Sacramento’s radar is unrestricted free agent, HoopsHype has learned,” Scotto reported.
Top prospect started his career as a backup, but over the past two seasons with the Washington Wizards and Phoenix Suns, he has successfully transitioned into a starting role.
Last season, the 29-year-old guard averaged 10.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game while shooting 44.8% from the field and an impressive 41.4% from beyond the arc.
Although Jones isn’t considered an All-Star level point guard, he would still represent a significant upgrade for the Kings. Additionally, he’s likely to come at a more affordable price compared to other potential targets on the market.
Regardless, Jones would be a strong addition in Sacramento, but the Kings may also explore other options to strengthen their backcourt depth this offseason.
