Breaking News: Rangers Intriguing Deal Acquires Another Top Experienced $31M Star

The New York Rangers appear poised to make significant roster moves this offseason, and one major  blockbuster trade sends Dallas Stars winger to New York in exchange for a package of young talent and a draft pick:

This deal would represent a major shakeup for both teams. Top prospect, who has been the subject of trade, is entering the final year of his four-year, $31 million contract. He would likely step in as a top-line forward for the Rangers and provide an offensive boost, having posted 35 goals and 45 assists for 80 points over 82 games last season.

In return, Dallas would receive a substantial haul:

  • Brennan Othmann: The 2021 first-rounder (16th overall) has yet to find his footing in the NHL, tallying just 2 assists in 22 games.
  • Gabe Perrault: A 2023 first-round pick with middle-six potential who appeared in 5 NHL games last season without registering a point.
  • Braden Schneider: Perhaps the centerpiece of the package, Schneider is an established top-four defenseman who combines physicality with solid production (6 goals, 15 assists in 80 games last season).
  • Zac Jones: A pending restricted free agent, Jones could either serve as depth for Dallas or be flipped in another move.
  • 2025 second-round pick: Adds future value to the package.

While purely speculative, this trade reflects the kind of bold move the Rangers may be considering to retool their core. Acquiring Robertson would provide a high-impact scoring winger to complement their current stars, while Dallas would reload with young talent across multiple positions.

Stars Shopping Robertson

Following their elimination in the Western Conference Final, the Dallas Stars appear poised to consider major offseason changes—one of which could involve trading star winger Jason Robertson.

Multiple insiders have confirmed that Robertson is indeed available, and NHL insider Frank Seravalli of DailyFaceoff recently added him to his offseason trade bait board, signaling that Dallas is at least open to offers for the 24-year-old scorer.

“The Dallas Stars have some franchise-altering decisions to make this summer. Is Robertson one of the foundational pillars? Or is he a player they can live without?” Seravalli wrote. “His season was down then up. The first half cost him a spot on Team USA for the 4 Nations. The second half, he was one of the best players in the league, finishing with 28 goals and 57 points in 48 games. And then, on a team with limited cap space and a roster to fill out, what will that next contract cost? And are the Stars willing to meet it? Players like Robertson don’t come around often.”

Robertson, who wrapped the season with 35 goals and 80 points in 82 games overall, would be one of the biggest names on the trade market this summer. While it would take a significant return to pry him away from Dallas, the fact that the Stars are open to discussions signals a willingness to consider reshaping their roster in order to address cap concerns and broader team needs.

Rangers Considering Everything This Offseason

After missing the playoffs last season, the New York Rangers are determined to return to contention—and they’re approaching the offseason with an aggressive mindset.

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, general manager Chris Drury is exploring all options to reshape the roster. “The Rangers are considering an awful lot of things,” Friedman said. “After the season they had last year, there are very few things that are off the table. Chris Drury has got a lot out there, and he basically wants to know—if you want to talk to them about something, just reach out, because he’s trying to evaluate every possible opportunity.”

New York enters the offseason with just \$8.42 million in cap space, which limits their flexibility. However, given Drury’s willingness to entertain a wide range of possibilities, the Rangers could be active in the trade market as they look to retool the roster and get back into playoff form quickly.
