Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders has been away from the team recently, spending time at his home in Texas to rest. According to his oldest son, Deion Sanders Jr., Coach Prime is dealing with an undisclosed health issue.
The update came through a video blog shared by Sanders Jr. over the weekend, as reported by USA TODAY Sports.
Although no specific details were provided about the condition, Sanders Jr. noted that his father is “feeling well.” Earlier this month, Sanders had been scheduled to give the keynote address at the Sickle Cell Disease Research and Educational Symposia but had to cancel due to what was described as an “unavoidable last-minute scheduling conflict.”
Coach Prime has previously faced significant health challenges. In 2022, he had two toes on his left foot amputated following surgery complications that caused blood clots.

“He’ll share what he’s been dealing with in due time,” Sanders Jr. said. “When we return to Boulder? I’m not sure. I’m waiting until my dad leaves first—once he heads back, I’ll follow. Until then, I’m staying here with him.” We’re all wishing Coach Prime a full and speedy recovery.
Meanwhile, Colorado kicked off its annual summer football camps last week. The Buffaloes will begin their 2025 season on August 29 with a matchup against Georgia Tech.
