The Boston Red Sox experienced a tense moment during Saturday’s win over the Washington Nationals.
Ceddanne Rafaela, one of the team’s hottest hitters of late, exited the game in the eighth inning after stumbling during a double. Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams capitalized on the mishap, tagging Rafaela out and ending his day. Nate Eaton took over in center field, while Marcelo Mayer was brought in to play third base.
It was a moment that made fans hold their breath, but there’s no reason for concern.

“He’s OK,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora assured reporters after the game, per NESN.
Rafaela has been on fire at the plate, posting a .287/.340/.574 slash line with seven home runs, 10 doubles, 17 RBIs, and 33 total runs since the beginning of June.
The Red Sox are no doubt relieved that he’s fine and will continue to contribute offensively — and with his elite defense in the outfield.
