JUST IN: Roman Anthony Breaks Silence On Contract Talks With Red Sox

Roman Anthony is putting contract talks on the back burner as he adjusts to his first MLB season with the Boston Red Sox.

“There hasn’t even been a whisper about it since I got here,” Anthony said, noting that both he and the team have “done a good job just letting me play,” per Rob Bradford of WEEI.

Since spring training, there’s been ongoing speculation about a possible extension — especially with Anthony, Kristian Campbell, and Marcelo Mayer entering the season as Boston’s top three prospects. Campbell inked an eight-year, $60 million deal in April, but Anthony and Mayer have yet to follow suit.

“If (an extension) comes up, it’ll probably be later in the season or during the offseason,” Anthony said, via Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald.

He emphasized that Boston remains his preferred team, calling the idea of a long-term deal “fantastic” and praising both the fans and his overall experience with the organization.

However, securing Anthony’s future won’t come cheap. At just 21 years old, he’s viewed as a high-upside talent and remains under team control through the 2031 season — a situation that gives him significant negotiating power if his development stays on course.

Brandon Glick of BoSox Injection floated the possibility that Boston might value those team-controlled years highly enough to consider something like an eight-year, $100 million extension.

For now, though, Anthony is focused solely on his game.

“I don’t think about the money or anything like that unless they bring it up — if they do,” he told Starr.
