The Texas Rangers entered the 2025 MLB season with aspirations of being one of the top teams in the American League. However, with the team sitting below the .500 mark in July, there’s growing speculation they may shift into seller mode ahead of the trade deadline.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic confirmed the Rangers trade All-star outfielder Adolis García.
García’s 2025 stats (via ESPN):
Batting .228/.272/.386 with a .658 OPS, 10 home runs, 49 RBIs, and 8 stolen bases across 303 at-bats.
Once viewed as a rising star—earning All-MLB Second Team honors and ALCS MVP in 2023 en route to helping Texas win the World Series—García has seen his offensive numbers decline. He’s on track to fall short of 20 home runs for the first time as a full-time player and is posting an on-base percentage below .300 for the second straight year. His OPS has also dipped, following a career-low .684 mark in 2024.
As of today, García holds a .227/.272/.386 slash line with a .658 OPS and a 93 OPS+ over his last 968 plate appearances—signifying below-average production. During that span, he’s struck out 27% of the time while walking just 6.5% of the time.
García is earning $10.5 million in 2025, is arbitration-eligible in 2026, and will become a free agent after the 2026 season.
Despite his offensive struggles, García remains an elite defender. In 81 games this season, he ranks second among right fielders in Defensive Runs Saved (10) and is in the 94th percentile in arm strength (92.1 mph), according to Baseball Savant.
Given the limited availability of power-hitting outfielders ahead of the trade deadline, García could draw significant interest if made available. His recent uptick in performance—a .717 OPS over his last 106 at-bats—adds to his appeal as a potential everyday right fielder for a contending team.
