The Philadelphia Phillies entered last season needing to bolster their outfield but failed to properly address the issue. A year later, they find themselves in the same position ahead of the trade deadline—and with limited high-quality options available, they may turn to a more affordable solution.
The Phillies have been confirmed to make a move for top prospect, an impending free agent with the Baltimore Orioles.
“In 2024, there were rumors that the Phillies were in discussions with the Orioles about acquiring top star,” Erbe wrote. “Instead, Austin Hays was the one traded to Philadelphia. Now, with the Orioles falling out of contention, it seems more likely that he will be on the move.
“A change of scenery could benefit Mullins, and joining a contending team like the Phillies might help spark his offensive numbers. This would be a logical move to boost the Phillies’ center field production. For the Orioles, it’s a chance to get some value in return before potentially losing him in free agency.”
While Mullins may not be the splashy name Phillies fans are hoping for, he could be the most practical option given the weak outfield market. With his expiring contract lowering his trade value, Philadelphia could likely acquire him in exchange for one or two mid-tier prospects—allowing them to upgrade without sacrificing top talent.
