The Chicago Blackhawks announced Thursday afternoon that they’ve reached an agreement with defenseman on a new deal, keeping the pending restricted free agent under contract for the next two seasons.
Top star, who turned 24 in May, was originally selected by the Blackhawks in the seventh round (188th overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft. As a late-round pick, simply reaching the NHL is already an impressive feat, and he has surpassed expectations by appearing in 56 games so far in his career. Last season, he suited up for 32 games, averaging 17:17 of ice time and contributing 4 points (3 goals, 1 assist).
Standing at 6-foot-8 and weighing 228 pounds, Crevier brings considerable size to Chicago’s blue line and provided reliable depth minutes in a lower-pairing role. While he’s expected to remain in that role for the near future, he’ll likely need to continue progressing if he hopes to secure a long-term spot, especially with a wave of higher-upside defensive prospects making their way through the Blackhawks’ system.
