Breaking News: Panthers Completes Stunning Deal For Another Top Talented Rookie Edge Rusher Ahead of Training Camp

The Carolina Panthers have become the latest team to finalize their rookie contracts just in time for training camp, announcing that second-round pick has agreed to terms on his rookie deal.

Selected 51st overall in April’s NFL Draft, his contract isn’t expected to be strong guarantee structure in line with others drafted in the same range. According to Jason Fitzgerald of Over the Cap, players picked in that slot have seen guarantee percentages between 54.8% and 66.4% in recent years — and top star likely pushed that number higher, consistent with 2025 second-round trends.

Scourton began his college career at Purdue, where he emerged in his sophomore season with a Big Ten-leading 10 sacks and 15 tackles for loss. He transferred to Texas A&M last offseason and, despite his sack total dipping to five, still led the Aggies in that category. He also posted 14 tackles for loss and forced a fumble, earning him First-Team All-SEC and Second-Team All-American honors in 2024.

Though many expected the Panthers to address their pass rush needs with their first pick, they opted for wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan in the first round, turning to Scourton early on Day 2. He was joined by fellow edge rusher Princely Umanmielen in the third round. With Jadeveon Clowney no longer on the roster, both rookies are expected to contribute right away, with Scourton’s proven run-stopping ability giving him a good chance to secure early playing time as Carolina aims to revamp its defense in 2025.
