Breaking News: Phillies Receive Another ‘Terrible’ Alec Bohm Injury Update

The Philadelphia Phillies placed infielder Alec Bohm on the 10-day injured list due to a fractured rib. To fill his spot, the team recalled Weston Wilson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Wilson had previously been demoted because of underwhelming offensive performance. Bohm sustained the injury after being hit by a pitch during a July 12 game against the San Diego Padres. Although he sat out the following day, he aggravated the injury during a July 18 game versus the Los Angeles Angels, which ultimately led to his placement on the IL.

So far this season, Bohm has posted a .278/.324/.391 slash line with eight home runs and 42 RBI over 92 games. He holds a 99 wRC+ and a .314 BABIP. Despite a slow start to the year, he had been performing well recently.

Wilson returns with a .194/.310/.278 batting line, one home run, and four RBI in 22 big league games this year. He’s recorded a 72 wRC+ and a .273 BABIP. Though he’s played third base six times at the major league level and more extensively in the minors, it’s uncertain whether he’ll see time at the position during Bohm’s absence.

Third Base Outlook

Edmundo Sosa and Otto Kemp are expected to handle most of the third base duties while Bohm recovers. Sosa, in 50 games this season, has hit .274/.317/.415 with three home runs, 21 RBI, a 103 wRC+, and a .330 BABIP. He’s the most likely candidate to receive regular playing time. Kemp, meanwhile, has appeared in 27 major league games, hitting .247/.316/.337 with one home run and 11 RBI, along with an 86 wRC+ and a .350 BABIP. He’s made a few appearances at third base and may continue to do so in a supporting role.
