Rece Hinds, a member of Triple-A Louisville, will be called up by the Cincinnati Reds for tonight’s game. As TJ Friedl is on his way to the paternity list, the outfielder is stepping in for him.
Today, Rece Hinds will not be starting. In Triple-A, the 24-year-old has been playing center field lately to gain experience in case the major leagues need him to cover the position occasionally.
Hinds has had some difficulties at the plate in the major leagues, but throughout the past two months, Louisville’s right-handed slugger has been destroying the ball. He has participated in 32 Bats games since the beginning of June. In that time, he has gone 41-116 and batted for a batting average of.353. He has an on-base percentage of.437 over that time, having drawn 16 walks. In addition, he has eight home runs and 13 doubles. That’s a respectable.672 slugging percentage. For those keeping score at home, that’s an OPS of 1.109 in Triple-A over the past two months.
In case you’re wondering, “What about the strikeouts?” he has recorded 32 of them in 135 plate appearances. That’s a 23.7% strikeout rate. Throughout this time, Hinds has been making a lot of contact.
It’s unclear if he will have an opportunity to play for the Reds this time around. Some men just miss one day of paternity leave. Some men require several days. Hinds might be with the team for just one day, but even in a longer-term situation, he is probably only going to be on the roster for three days, unless another player gets hurt and Cincinnati decides to retain him on the roster until Friedl gets back from paternity leave.
