The National League East is loaded with talent, particularly among the Philadelphia Phillies, New York Mets, and Atlanta Braves. While the Braves are struggling this season, all three teams generally enter each year as contenders for the division crown. The Braves, led by Ronald Acuña Jr., boast a roster stacked with All-Stars—much like the Phillies and Mets.

Now, the Phillies have secured a significant addition for their future. According to MLB insider Francys Romero, the Phillies have finalized a deal to sign Venezuelan shortstop Kenny Acuña, the youngest brother of Ronald Acuña Jr., for approximately $3 million. The agreement will become official when the international signing period opens on January 15, 2028.
Romero reported on X that the Phillies emerged as favorites despite interest from over 20 MLB teams. Kenny Acuña, who is just 14 years old, reportedly reached an agreement with Philadelphia when he was only 12.
If the deal holds through to the official signing date, Kenny will join an NL East organization just like his brothers—Ronald with the Braves and Luisangel with the Mets (currently in the minors). Another Acuña sibling, Bryan, is part of the Minnesota Twins’ farm system.
Confirmed as a done deal in principle, this move adds another talented Acuña to one of baseball’s most competitive divisions.
