Detroit Tigers promote reliever Codi Heuer from Triple-A Toledo ...

“We liked what Codi Heuer was doing, acquired him, and then it became a shorter opportunity for Luke,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch explained. “We’re just arranging our bullpen the best we can for the series that’s right in front of us. It’s tough news for Luke. It wasn’t a long opportunity.”

Detroit signed Jackson on July 23 after his release from Texas. Over parts of 10 MLB seasons with three clubs—including two stretches with the Rangers—his best campaign came in 2021, when he posted a 1.98 ERA in 63 2/3 innings for the World Series–winning Atlanta Braves.

Heuer, 29, missed three full seasons due to Tommy John surgery and an elbow fracture sustained during his rehab. He returned in 2025 with Texas, spending most of the year at Triple-A but making a brief MLB appearance in June.

A sixth-round pick by the Chicago White Sox out of Wichita State in 2018, Heuer pitched parts of two big-league seasons for the Sox and also played for the Chicago Cubs.
