JUST IN: Rangers Welcome Top Defender Back to Roster While Adding Adolis Garcia to IL

The Texas Rangers, who are currently experiencing another offensive rut, are hoping to see some good movement after making roster adjustments off the injured list.

Evan Carter has been activated from the disabled list after suffering with a persistent back condition since early last season. In his stead, they have placed outfielder Adolis Garcia on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle issue.

One For One Trade

Carter will look to bring some spark to a Rangers offense that has been lackluster in their home series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, which is currently tied. The decisive Game 3 is set for today at 1:35 p.m. CT.

Last night, he made a rehab appearance with the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders, going hitless in two at-bats but drawing two walks.

In the 2025 season, Carter has a .238/.323/.381 slash line over 168 at-bats, collecting 40 hits against 39 strikeouts and 17 walks. While his overall numbers have been underwhelming, 14 of his hits have gone for extra bases, including eight doubles, two triples, and four home runs.

With Garcia out and Wyatt Langford resting due to forearm tightness though expected to return to full activity Carter will take over an outfield spot in today’s game.

Ten Day Reset

The Texas Rangers have placed Adolis García on the 10-day injured list due to a left ankle injury, though the move has also fueled speculation that it could serve as more of a “mental reset” for the struggling outfielder.

García’s recent performance at the plate has been underwhelming. Over his last 10 games, he has gone 9-for-42, batting just .214 and striking out 12 times in that span. More notably, since the end of July, his power production has dropped sharply managing only two home runs and driving in just three runs. His underlying metrics also reflect this downturn, as he is posting the lowest barrel rate of his career at 12.1 percent, along with the lowest walk rate he has ever recorded. These struggles have been compounded by a rise in unusual mental mistakes, both on the basepaths and in the field, that are uncharacteristic for a player of his caliber.

The Rangers now face a difficult decision regarding García’s role moving forward, especially with the team’s outfield picture beginning to shift. Wyatt Langford and Josh Smith continue to establish themselves as potential long-term cornerstones, and the return of Evan Carter who has shown considerable promise when healthy adds another layer of competition. Carter, Langford, and Smith could very well form the outfield core of the future, while García, who will turn 33 before the 2026 season begins, finds himself at a crossroads in his career with the club.
