JUST IN: Packers Matt LaFleur Gives Stunning Update On Romeo Doubs Trade

Romeo Doubs, a wide receiver, will not be cut by the Green Bay Packers, head coach Matt LaFleur stated on Up and Adams.

LaFleur had a straightforward response when asked if the squad would think about cutting Doubs.

“No, that won’t occur,” LaFleur stated. “Because Rome is competing and acting in every way that we require of him.” He has undoubtedly played a great deal of ball for us. You can rely on him every day, and he has been an excellent colleague.

Not too long ago, the Packers looked like they had more wide receivers than they knew what to do with. After bringing in rookies Matthew Golden and Saivion Williams through the draft, the thought was that Green Bay might actually have the luxury of parting with one of their more established pass catchers. But those plans have been complicated by injuries to two of their most important targets.

Christian Watson is still working his way back from an ACL tear, and Jayden Reed has been slowed by a foot injury that may keep him sidelined when the regular season kicks off. Those setbacks have thinned the depth chart and shifted the team’s perspective on whether they can afford to let go of anyone.

NFL insider provides important update on Romeo Doubs' future with Packers

Romeo Doubs, meanwhile, is another player who has dealt with health concerns of his own. Concussions became an issue last season, raising questions about his durability. Yet when Doubs has been able to stay on the field, he’s shown why the Packers value him so highly. His size and strength allow him to win contested catches, and he’s come up with timely plays that helped Green Bay’s young offense take steps forward.

Doubs' return expected to boost the Packers' receiving depth

The numbers back that up. Despite being limited to just 13 games last year, Doubs caught 46 passes for 601 yards and four touchdowns. Had he avoided the injuries, he was on pace for what could have been the best season of his young career. The year before, in 2023, he was a reliable presence with 59 receptions, 674 yards, and eight trips to the end zone.

Another factor is his background with Aaron Rodgers. That connection makes Doubs’ name pop up in trade speculation involving the Steelers, but in reality, it’s hard to picture the Packers letting him go right now. With Watson and Reed uncertain to start the season, Doubs’ role becomes even more crucial.

Given Green Bay’s current situation, it’s far more likely that Doubs remains a key piece of their passing attack rather than someone they’d consider moving on from.
