SAD NEWS: Phillies announce unfortunate injury to top pitcher

The Philadelphia Phillies’ bullpen improved over the 2025 season. While Jose Alvarado will not be a role in the postseason, the Phillies’ signings of Jhoan Duran and David Robertson were significant.

They’ve also added a few new bullpen alternatives this season, including Lou Trivino, Tim Mayza, Daniel Robert, and, most recently, Walker Buehler, who might factor into the bullpen come October.

However, prior of the second game against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Phillies revealed some bad news about one of their relievers.

Phillies Reliever Hits 15-Day Injured List

The Phillies have placed right-handed pitcher Daniel Robert on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to September 2nd. Max Lazar, who has pitched well for the Phillies this season, will replace him in the bullpen.

This season, Robert has a 4.15 ERA in 15 games, 15 strikeouts, a 1.62 WHIP, 10 walks, and 11 hits in 13 innings thrown. He most recently tossed a spotless two-thirds inning against the Brewers in the Phillies’ exciting 10-8 victory on Monday night.

The 31-year-old was acquired from the Texas Rangers earlier this year and has made several appearances in Philadelphia’s bullpen this season.

Lazar, who is replacing Robert on the Phillies’ 28-man roster, has appeared in 28 games this season. He has a 4.78 ERA in those games, having allowed 31 hits and 17 earned runs in 32 innings with the Phillies this season.
He also has 21 strikeouts on the season, nine walks, and five home runs allowed. His most recent Major League appearance was an 11-9 victory over the Washington Nationals in the middle of August, in which he scored three runs.

Prior to that outing, he had a 0.00 ERA across six innings. Lazar’s worst performance of the season came at the end of July, when he allowed six earned runs in a blowout defeat to the Chicago White Sox.
Before that disastrous outing, he had a 2.96 ERA in 24.1 innings pitched. If he can improve his consistency down the stretch for the Phillies, he might join the team’s postseason bullpen.

For the time being, Lazar is taking Robert’s spot on the 28-man roster, as the Phillies announced that Robert had been placed on the injured list following a brief three-game run with the organization since being called up in late August.
