As if the Virginia Tech football team’s second half against Vanderbilt on Saturday night at Lane Stadium wasn’t awful enough, they were outscored 34-0 in a 44-20 loss, and one position that couldn’t afford any injuries had two major ones.
The Hokies’ offensive linemen, Johnny Garrett and Montavious Cunningham, were injured as the team fell to 0-2. Garrett was injured late in the first half and limped off the field after being down for a spell during Virginia Tech’s final drive of the half. He didn’t participate in the second half, forcing rookie Aidan Lynch to make his debut.

Brent Pry gives update on two injured offensive linemen ahead of Old Dominion game
Pry met with the media on Tuesday and provided an update on both players ahead of this weekend’s game against Old Dominion, which is a must-win game. Where have we heard this before?
“No, we’ll learn more today; obviously, those two guys are critical,” Pry added. “I look out there in that second half, and we have three redshirt freshmen up against a pretty experienced group, but you know Johnny and Mont are tough. If those men can go, they will. Johnny’s kind of, you know, that left tackle slot, we shifted Tomas across, and Aidan to right. We’re going to look into a few things, but we won’t know what we need to do until we know who we have.

Pry will most likely provide more updates, but if either player is out, Pry and offensive line coach Matt Moore will have to go deep into their depth chart. We watched how that played out last week against the Commodores in the second half, and the offensive results spoke for themselves. Missing one or both guys would be a significant setback for the Hokies.
