When Virginia Tech football was being run out of Lane Stadium by Vanderbilt in the second half on Saturday night, outscoring 34-0 in the second half of a 44-20 loss, it happened in front of a handful of recruits who were either on an official visit or had already committed to the program.
Andrew Rogers, a three-star edge recruit from Greensboro, North Carolina, committed to Virginia Tech last month. He reclassified from the Class of 2027 to the Class of 2026 and committed to Virginia Tech on August 22nd.
Rogers was supposed to travel to Blacksburg this weekend for the game versus Old Dominion, but he verified to Kolby Crawford of VTScoop that the staff had canceled his visit. Instead, he’ll travel to Tennessee to watch them face Georgia in a key early-season SEC matchup.

Virginia Tech canceling Andrew Rogers visit is another Brent Pry fumble in 2025
After Virginia Tech canceled Rogers’ visit this weekend, Tennessee contacted him and extended an invitation to Knoxville. The 6-foot-6, 240-pounder is regarded as one of the top recruits in the Class of 2026, which is small in number, but anticipate more colleges to contact him following Virginia Tech’s unusual choice.
This move comes on the heels of the Hokies’ poor performance versus the Commodores, which was not a good look for recruiters. We are not breaking any news there. Why would you cancel the visit of one of your top recruiters from the rising senior class like that? Rogers isn’t pleased.

This is just another mistake from the Brent Pry era at Blacksburg, which is already on the verge of collapse. A loss to Old Dominion this weekend may place Pry and the school in a difficult situation. This is simply not a good picture for a program aiming for a positive outcome right now.
