The New York Giants have stumbled out of the gate, opening the 2025 NFL season at 0-2, and now find themselves in a must-win showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs (also 0-2). One of the biggest questions hanging over the matchup is the availability of star offensive tackle Andrew Thomas, who has yet to play this season after missing the first two games.
In Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys, the Giants initially turned to James Hudson at left tackle, but his stint was short-lived after four costly penalties on the opening drive. Hudson was quickly replaced by rookie Marcus Mbow, who impressed with a steady performance and immediately won over a large portion of the fan base. Many are now calling for Mbow to remain in the lineup even if Thomas is healthy enough to return for the primetime clash with Kansas City.
Andrew Thomas has shown steady progress throughout the week, and this might finally be the moment he makes his return to live game action. According to Dan Duggan of The Athletic, who reported on head coach Brian Daboll’s comments Friday, the Giants are taking a cautious approach as they prepare for Sunday night’s matchup against the Chiefs.

Duggan noted that Daboll expressed “guarded optimism” regarding Thomas’ status, emphasizing that the decision could be delayed all the way up to kickoff. He also mentioned the possibility of a left tackle rotation with rookie Marcus Mbow, and hinted that the upcoming injury report would likely feature several players officially listed as questionable.
Given that, Thomas appears to be a true game-time decision. While signs point toward him being close to a return, there remains a chance the Giants hold him out one more week. Should Thomas be ruled inactive just before kickoff, the expectation is that Mbow would once again step into the starting role at left tackle.
