Josh Allen’s broad grin looked familiar. The wedding band on the quarterback’s ring finger was spanking new.
As much as Allen wanted to talk about the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday, he couldn’t avoid inquiries about his high-profile wedding to actor/singer Hailee Steinfeld in Southern California on May 31.
“We’re back to football,” he replied, then pointed to his ring finger. “I got some hardware now. So, we’re good to go.
Allen was otherwise vague so order to retain a sense of secrecy, despite the fact that photos from the outdoor ceremony were posted on social media only minutes after the couple exchanged “I do’s.” There were photos of Steinfeld coming down the aisle in a strapless white gown, the pair kissing, and Allen in a black tuxedo posing with friends and Bills teammates.
Allen finally opened up when asked what the preceding four months had meant to him — during which time he was awarded NFL MVP in February, signed one of the league’s biggest contracts in March, and married in May.
He described Steinfeld as his best friend, saying she made everything easier.
“That was the most important decision I’ll make in my life and I made the right one,” Allen said the crowd.
Western New York and the NFL now boast a new high-profile couple, both originally from California and romantically linked for the past two years.
One half of the duo is 29-year-old Josh Allen, who has rewritten much of the Buffalo Bills’ record books over his seven-season career. He’s elevated the team into a top contender in the AFC, all while becoming a familiar face in national advertising campaigns.
The other half is 28-year-old Hailee Steinfeld, who rose to prominence with an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Mattie Ross in the Coen brothers’ 2010 film True Grit. Since then, she has taken on several leading roles—most recently in the film Sinners—and has also pursued a career in music.
While their relationship continues to generate media attention, Allen refocused on football this week as the Bills kicked off a mandatory three-day minicamp. He had skipped voluntary workouts the week before.
Back in his usual role running the offense, Allen also took time after practice to be filmed as part of a routine checkup on his footwork and throwing mechanics. This process, which he undergoes a few times a year, helps him correct any developing flaws.
“We’re always checking to make sure things are on track,” Allen said. “If there’s anything we can adjust to improve, we’re going to work on it.”
Allen brings that same mindset to handling the public eye. Head coach Sean McDermott praised his quarterback for staying grounded despite the spotlight.
“What I’ve seen is someone who’s truly genuine,” McDermott said. “Yes, he’s a superstar and potentially the best player in the league, but he’s incredibly real, relatable, and down-to-earth. That’s what makes Josh special—he doesn’t try to be anyone else.”
And yes, McDermott attended the couple’s wedding.
“I was very thankful to be there,” he said. “It was everything you’d hope a wedding would be—just a wonderful moment, with two remarkable families coming together.”
