BREAKING: All-American 5-Star Offense Withdraws from Portal, Recommits to South Carolina Program

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer continues to prove that stability and belief inside the program matter just as much as recruiting wins on the trail. In an era where the transfer portal reshapes rosters overnight, the Gamecocks have quietly accomplished something significant by convincing their most important contributors to stay put. Several cornerstone players have already made it clear they are committed to the future in Columbia, sending a strong message about confidence in the direction of the program. With leaders on both sides of the ball choosing continuity over change, South Carolina is building a foundation that suggests long term growth rather than short term fixes.

That positive momentum has grown even stronger with the report that starting left tackle Josiah Thompson has officially withdrawn his name from the transfer portal and will return for next season. Thompson’s decision represents a major retention win for Beamer and his staff, especially considering how valuable elite offensive line play is in the SEC. Keeping a proven blind side protector in place brings much needed stability to the offense and preserves continuity up front.

Thompson arrived in Columbia as one of the crown jewels of South Carolina’s 2024 recruiting class. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, he was rated as the No. 35 overall player nationally, the top prospect in the state of South Carolina, and the No. 3 offensive lineman in the class. His talent drew heavy interest once he entered the portal, with programs like Georgia and Miami hosting him for visits, underscoring just how coveted he was.

Since stepping on campus, Thompson has been remarkably reliable. Over two seasons, he has started all 24 games he has appeared in and missed just one contest due to injury. His immediate impact earned him All Freshman SEC honors and Freshman All American recognition in 2024.

Beamer’s passionate end of season message, in which he promised a different and improved team in 2026, appears to be resonating. With Thompson joining other top players in choosing to stay, that belief is clearly taking hold inside the locker room.
