A period of transition is underway for the Auburn Tigers basketball program, and the latest development signals another significant shift as the team looks toward the future. After an up-and-down season marked by flashes of promise and stretches of inconsistency, Auburn now faces the challenge of reshaping its roster during a pivotal offseason. One of the brightest spots from the campaign, a freshman guard is set to move on, creating both a void in production and an opportunity for the coaching staff to recalibrate its approach.
According to Talia Goodman of On3, Harissoum Coulibaly intends to enter the transfer portal following her debut collegiate season. The freshman emerged as Auburn’s most reliable scoring option, leading the team with an average of 10.4 points per game while also contributing 3.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists. Her efficiency stood out as well, as she converted 45 percent of her shots from the field. Early in the season, she delivered a standout performance in the opener against Charlotte, finishing with 19 points, five rebounds, and five steals, offering a glimpse of her two-way potential.

Coulibaly’s departure is particularly notable given her background and pedigree. A native of Paris, France, she developed her game with Mondeville U18 before making the move to the United States. She arrived at Auburn as part of head coach Larry Vickers’ first recruiting class, carrying a strong reputation as the No. 95 overall prospect according to ESPN and a four-star recruit by 247Sports. Her immediate impact suggested she could be a foundational piece for the program moving forward.
The timing of this decision comes after a difficult finish to Auburn’s season. A lopsided 81-53 road loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores women’s basketball marked the beginning of a late skid, with the Tigers dropping six additional games to close out the year. The team ultimately finished with a 15-17 overall record and struggled in conference play, posting a 3-13 mark in the Southeastern Conference.

As Vickers enters another offseason at the helm, the focus will shift toward rebuilding and reinforcing the roster. Replacing Coulibaly’s scoring and versatility will be a key priority as Auburn looks to take a step forward and regain competitiveness within the SEC.
