Before the end of his third stint with the Buffalo Bills, Kameron Cline had hardly had time to get settled in his dorm room at St. John Fisher State.
The veteran defensive tackle, who has played for the Bills for portions of the last two seasons, was signed late last week. Days later, however, when the team started to reduce its final roster, Cline was cut loose, depriving the defensive line of considerable depth throughout training camp.
Bills Keep Kameron Cline for Less Than a Week
Cline, who was on the practice squad and made one appearance for the Bills during the 2024 season, was signed by the team on July 31.
Since Cline had played for the team in both the 2023 and 2024 seasons, he seemed to have an advantage while vying for a seat on the final squad. After two significant offseason additions, Larry Ogunjobi and Michael Hoecht, were suspended for six games to begin the season for breaking the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy, the Bills also have a defensive line opening.
When the team cut undrafted rookie Hayden Harris after he got into a fight with lineman Alec Anderson during practice, Cline took his place on the roster. Although Bills head coach Sean McDermott blamed Anderson for the altercation and sent him out of practice for the remainder of the day, it’s unclear if the altercation had anything to do with his release.
“I don’t respect it when you cheap shot someone. According to SI.com, McDermott stated, “I sent him to the locker room because I thought that was a cheap shot, and I explained to him why I did that from a follow-up standpoint.”
The Bills have a tendency to bring back players who spent time on their practice squad or active roster, so Cline might yet make a comeback if they suffer injuries.
Bills Add Youth at Defensive Line
With three of their first four draft selections going to the defensive line, the Bills already have some new players on the line. T.J. Sanders, a defensive lineman who claimed to have been learning from Ed Oliver and the other seasoned players at the position, was acquired by the team by trading up to the No. 41 overall choice.

To be honest, the men that surround me. “I’m really excited about getting a chance to play alongside guys like Ed, Greg [Rousseau], Joey [Bosa], and the entire room. D-tackles and D-ends are just guys I’ve seen growing up,” Sanders said.
Although training camp has been a significant learning experience, the rookie lineman said he thinks he is capable of handling the challenge.
On the mental side, I feel like I’m getting better every day. We’re trying to adjust, so we’re adding new stuff every day,” Sanders stated. “I think I’ve been doing a pretty good job of that, and physically, I’ve been doing the same thing every day, just taking things one step at a time, trying to get to where it slows down for me.”
