Breaking: Cubs Officially Confirm the Signing of Another Top Experienced Veteran to Solve Immediate Injury Problem

The Chicago Cubs signed left-handed reliever as first reported by MLB insider Jon Heyman. He became a free agent after being waived by the New York Mets. During his brief stint with the Mets, he pitched in six games, recording a 3.52 ERA and surrendering just one home run. This move marks a return to the National League Central for Génesis Cabrera, who spent four and a half seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals before being traded to the Toronto Blue Jays in 2023.

While Cabrera showed potential early in his Cardinals tenure, his performance declined in his final two seasons there, with ERAs of 4.63 in 2022 and 5.06 in 2023. After joining the Blue Jays, he bounced back with a strong 2.66 ERA in 2023, though he regressed slightly the following year, posting a 3.59 ERA. Cabrera signed with the Mets this past offseason and began the year in Triple-A, eventually being called up due to injuries on the roster. He performed capably for New York before being placed on waivers.

Now with the Cubs, Cabrera adds depth to a bullpen that has struggled throughout the season. It remains unclear whether he will start in the minors or join the major league roster immediately, but his big league experience could be a valuable asset for the NL Central-leading Cubs.
