The New York Rangers reshaped the direction of their roster with a bold, future focused move, signaling both a shift in priorities and a willingness to bet on youth and long term upside. In an announcement that quickly drew attention across the league, team president and general manager Chris Drury confirmed that New York has completed a major trade with the Los Angeles Kings, exchanging one of the franchise’s most recognizable offensive stars for a package centered on a highly regarded young forward and valuable draft assets. The deal reflects the Rangers’ intent to build sustained success by adding leadership proven at the junior level while also increasing draft capital in the coming years.
As part of the transaction, the Rangers acquired forward Liam Greentree along with a conditional third round selection in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft and a conditional fourth round pick in the 2028 NHL Entry Draft. In return, New York sent forward Artemi Panarin to Los Angeles, closing a significant chapter in the club’s recent history.
Greentree, who is 20 years old, has been one of the standout performers in the Ontario Hockey League this season. Skating for the Windsor Spitfires, he has produced 23 goals and 22 assists for a total of 45 points in just 34 games. His offensive impact places him among the team’s most productive players, ranking near the top of the roster in goals, points, and assists.
A native of Oshawa, Ontario, Greentree has been a fixture with Windsor over the past four seasons, beginning in the 2022–23 campaign. During that span, he has accumulated an impressive 299 points on 133 goals and 166 assists across 223 OHL games. His leadership qualities are equally notable, as he has worn the captain’s “C” for the Spitfires in each of the last three seasons. In 2024–25, he finished among the OHL’s elite, ranking near the top of the league in points, goals, and assists, while also delivering strong postseason production with 25 points in 15 playoff games.
