When Mike Krzyzewski launched his Duke program, the Class of 1986 set the groundwork, which proved to be critical to the program’s success.
Things couldn’t stop there, and the athletes that arrived in the years that followed were critical to Duke’s continued success in the sport. Danny Ferry, Billy King, Kevin Strickland, Quin Snyder, John Smith, and Robert Brickey were the team’s backbone for the years after 1986.
Brickey grew up in Fayetteville, and in this video he discusses how he was recruited by Duke.
He claims he was focused on Wake Forest until Carl Tacey left, and he had no confidence in his successor, Bob Staack. His view on Staack is fairly astute, especially for a high school senior.
And his perspective on how Coach K and his father bonded as former military men is intriguing.
He has some really smart things to say here, so take a few moments to appreciate #21.
