One of New York Giants GM Joe Schoen’s main goals this offseason has been assembling a veteran roster capable of winning enough games to secure both his and head coach Brian Daboll’s future with the team.
He’s already strengthened the secondary by signing experienced players like cornerback Paulson Adebo and safety Jevon Holland—an acquisition that rival league executives believe could have an immediate impact. Now, Schoen has a chance to make his biggest move yet.
The Giants appear to be a natural landing spot for former Green Bay Packers All-Pro cornerback Jaire Alexander, who was released Monday after a prolonged contract dispute as he sought a new long-term deal.
Alexander, 28, had been entering the final year of an $84 million extension signed before the 2022 season. Now a free agent, he has the freedom to choose his next destination. While the Giants may not be his top choice, concerns over his injury history could narrow his options—potentially giving New York a shot at landing a highly motivated, high-upside veteran, provided he stays healthy.
A two-time Second-Team All-Pro, Alexander notched two interceptions—one returned for a touchdown—and recorded 16 tackles across just seven games last season.

Health remains the biggest question mark, as injuries to his neck, groin, shoulder, and ankle have limited him to only 14 games over the past two years. But if he’s back to full strength, Alexander could instantly boost the Giants’ secondary.
