Kansas State Wildcats men’s basketball may have just gained a major opening in the transfer portal after one of the most intriguing frontcourt names connected to its new coaching staff officially became available.
The latest development involves a highly productive Belmont forward who entered the portal after building his game under new Kansas State head coach Casey Alexander. Because of that existing relationship, Kansas State is already being viewed as one of the programs to watch closely in this recruitment.
That player is Drew Scharnowski, a 6-foot-9 forward who became one of Belmont Bruins men’s basketball’s most efficient interior weapons. His production around the basket, shot-blocking ability, and passing skill have made him one of the more attractive available big men in the portal.

Scharnowski’s numbers stand out because he finished among the nation’s most efficient two-point scorers while also showing strong defensive instincts around the rim. His ability to protect the basket and move the ball fits the style Alexander has consistently valued in his system.
What strengthens Kansas State’s position is familiarity. Scharnowski spent multiple seasons learning under Alexander, meaning there would be little adjustment to terminology, expectations, or offensive concepts if he follows his former coach to Manhattan.
Nothing is finalized yet, but Kansas State now sits in a position where a major frontcourt addition could become realistic very quickly. With several programs expected to show interest, the Wildcats will try to turn coaching continuity into a decisive advantage.
