BREAKING: Kentucky Poised to Steal the Nation’s Best Shooter from the Portal

Mark Pope and Kentucky may have a slim window of chance when it comes to one of the transfer portal’s most highly-touted scorers

The latest buzz surrounding Kentucky basketball in the transfer portal has largely revolved around point guards Zoom Diallo and Rob Wright. Given how critical that position is for the Wildcats heading into next season, it’s no surprise that much of the Big Blue Nation has been vocal—sometimes overwhelmingly so—about prioritizing a floor general. With Diallo reportedly visiting campus over the weekend, it appears Mark Pope and his staff recognize the urgency as well.

However, Kentucky’s approach this offseason hasn’t been limited to just addressing the backcourt. Pope is casting a much wider recruiting net, and that effort is becoming increasingly evident. While Diallo’s visit has grabbed most of the headlines, he isn’t the only transfer prospect scheduled to meet with the Wildcats.

According to KSR, forward DeSean Goode is also expected to be in Lexington for an in-person visit before the upcoming week.

Goode brings more than just size and physicality to the table. The Robert Morris standout has been a force on the boards, pulling down close to nine rebounds per game. Even more impressive, though, is his efficiency as a scorer. He connected on 63 percent of his field goal attempts and an eye-popping 57 percent from beyond the arc—numbers that immediately jump off the page. For a Kentucky team seeking reliable scoring on the wing, it’s easy to understand why Pope has prioritized him.

Beyond his efficiency, Goode has proven he can produce consistently, averaging 15 points per game. That level of production, paired with elite shooting percentages, has naturally attracted attention from multiple high-major programs. Kentucky isn’t alone in the race, as Oklahoma, St. John’s, NC State, and Louisville are all set to meet with him during the same stretch.

With such stiff competition, Kentucky’s margin for error is slim. If the Wildcats hope to secure Goode as a potential starter for Pope’s third season, they’ll need to make a strong impression quickly. The limited window for visits means every interaction counts, and standing out among several suitors will be crucial.

At the same time, there’s a growing sense of urgency surrounding Kentucky’s transfer portal activity. The program has yet to land a commitment, and that reality hasn’t gone unnoticed by the fan base. Social media has already begun to reflect some anxiety, with many supporters expressing concern about the roster’s current state.

Hitting the Panic Button

There’s a clear need for impact additions, and Goode appears to check nearly every box. His scoring efficiency, rebounding ability, and upward trajectory after two collegiate seasons make him one of the most appealing options Kentucky has seriously pursued so far.

Still, nothing is guaranteed in the ever-changing landscape of the transfer portal. Recruitment battles can shift quickly, and outcomes often remain uncertain until decisions are officially made. For now, Kentucky fans are left with little choice but to stay patient and hope that Pope and his staff can capitalize on the opportunity before it slips away.
