BREAKING: MLB insider confirms Phillies blockbuster deal for $189M star

Momentum appears to be building around Bo Bichette as his free agent market gains traction across Major League Baseball.

The veteran infielder has been connected to several clubs this offseason, most notably the Boston Red Sox, but the Philadelphia Phillies have also emerged as a serious suitor. On Monday, representatives from Bichette and the Phillies held a video meeting, a discussion that reportedly left a strong impression on both sides.

According to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, the conversation was viewed as a positive step in the process. The meeting went “very well,” and Bichette reportedly came away impressed with what Philadelphia has to offer.

“Bichette admires ‘first class’ organization,“ Heyman wrote on X. ”Other pluses: roster, park, (Don) Mattingly’s link, spring proximity to home.”

Those connections are notable. The Phillies hired Don Mattingly as their bench coach in January after he served in the same role with the Toronto Blue Jays from 2023 through 2025, overlapping directly with Bichette during his time in Toronto. That familiarity could help Philadelphia stand out as negotiations continue.

Geography also works in the Phillies’ favor. Bichette resides in Florida during the offseason, placing him close to Philadelphia’s spring training base in Clearwater, an added convenience that may factor into his decision.

Beyond Philadelphia, Bichette continues to draw interest from several high profile franchises, including the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Yankees. Boston, in particular, could benefit from adding a right-handed bat like Bichette to its lineup. While he has never surpassed 30 home runs in a single season, his ability to drive the ball to all fields could play well at Fenway Park.

The Red Sox remain the only team yet to sign a free agent to a major league contract this offseason. Although they have been active in trade discussions, the recent loss of Alex Bregman to a five-year deal with the Chicago Cubs leaves a noticeable gap, making Bichette an intriguing option as Boston evaluates its next move.
