Kalen DeBoer could see another decommitment on the horizon with what feels like an expected flip of one of Alabama’s few 2027 commitments to Auburn.
As the recruiting landscape continues to shift rapidly in college football, uncertainty has started to surround Alabama’s 2027 class. With early commitments often fluid and subject to change, head coach Kalen DeBoer is already facing a challenging situation as momentum appears to be slipping. What once looked like a stable foundation is now beginning to show cracks, raising concerns about how the Crimson Tide will solidify its future roster.
Kalen DeBoer and his staff have some serious work to do on the recruiting trail for the 2027 class. Currently, Alabama only has four players committed after the addition of unranked tight end Oakley Keegan from Liverpool, New York on Saturday. That addition, however, hasn’t done much to offset recent setbacks.
The loss of 4-star EDGE Jabarrius Garror still lingers, and now there are growing signs that another departure could be imminent. With such a small group of commits, each potential loss carries significant weight, and the Tide may not be done dealing with roster shakeups.
3-star cornerback Nash Johnson III committed to Alabama back in October, but his commitment has long been viewed as uncertain. Recent developments suggest that uncertainty may soon turn into action, with speculation building that he is close to reopening his recruitment. Even more concerning for Alabama fans is the possibility that he could land with their biggest rival, Auburn, now led by head coach Alex Golesh.

Nash Johnson could be getting ready to flip from Alabama to Auburn
This potential move would not necessarily shock those who have followed his recruitment closely. Still, losing a player—especially to a direct rival—is never easy to accept, regardless of overall class priorities.
There have been warning signs pointing in this direction for some time. Johnson has not set up an official visit to Tuscaloosa for the summer, while already lining up trips to Auburn, Miami, Tennessee, and Ole Miss. That lack of engagement with Alabama has only fueled the belief that a change could be coming.
From a roster standpoint, Alabama may be able to absorb the loss. The Crimson Tide have consistently recruited at a high level in the secondary, bringing in top-tier talents such as Dijon Lee, Jorden Edmonds, Chuck McDonald, and Zyan Gibson in recent cycles.

Looking ahead, Alabama remains firmly in contention for elite prospects at the position, including 5-star cornerbacks John Meredith III, ranked No. 2 nationally, and Hayden Stepp. Securing either would quickly shift the narrative and ease concerns surrounding the current class.
For now, however, the situation underscores a difficult reality: Alabama’s 2027 recruiting class may take another hit before it regains momentum.
