Colorado Avalanche top star has officially retired from the NHL and the Colorado Avalanche after 17 seasons, the team announced.
Johnson, 37, appeared in 1,023 regular-season games over his career, playing for the Avalanche, St. Louis Blues, Buffalo Sabres, and Philadelphia Flyers. He also suited up in 57 playoff games, including all 20 during Colorado’s 2022 Stanley Cup run. In total, he tallied 95 goals, 253 assists, and 348 career points.

“After 18 incredible years in the NHL, I am retiring with a heart full of gratitude,” Johnson said in a statement. He thanked each of his former teams, with special appreciation for Colorado and the memories of the 2022 Stanley Cup. Johnson also expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaches, staff, fans, and his family for their support throughout his career.
Johnson spent 14 of his 17 seasons with the Avalanche, appearing in 731 games for the franchise. He retires ranked 25th all-time in games played by an American-born defenseman.
