The Atlanta Braves are heading into a crucial offseason, and one of their biggest decisions involves free-agent reliever Raisel Iglesias. After a strong second half in 2025, Iglesias is expected to land at least a one-year contract somewhere—though it’s uncertain whether that will be in Atlanta.
What is clear is that the Braves must strengthen their bullpen if they hope to return to the postseason. A new prediction even links Atlanta to former Yankees All-Star reliever. His stint in New York was rocky, but he remains one of the most talented arms available.
Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly recently predicted that the Braves will sign Williams to a one-year, $13 million contract. Despite Williams’ struggles in 2025, when he posted a 4.79 ERA over 62 innings and lost the closer role several times, Kelly notes that relievers often rebound quickly. Williams had been dominant from 2019–2023, compiling a 1.89 ERA and appearing to be on a Hall of Fame track before his downturn.
Even with his inconsistent year in New York, Williams is still viewed as a high-upside option.

Atlanta’s Offseason Priorities
Atlanta’s situation is complicated. Their rotation is strong on paper, but injuries have derailed the staff for two straight seasons. If Iglesias departs, the need for bullpen help becomes even more pressing. Several relievers in recent years have revived their careers in Atlanta, making the Braves an appealing landing spot for someone like Williams.
Many analysts believe the Braves should add both rotation depth and a proven late-inning reliever. They won’t need to spend excessively, but quality pitching comes at a price. And if Atlanta doesn’t move quickly, another aggressive team could swoop in for Williams.
Beyond the pitching staff, the Braves may need a designated hitter if Marcell Ozuna leaves, as well as a middle infielder.
