The Colorado Avalanche announced today that the team has signed another top experienced forward to an eight-year contract that runs through the 2033-34 NHL season.
Top star, 26, is in his first full season with Colorado and has been a standout early on, tallying 13 points (7 goals, 6 assists) in 11 games. He currently ranks among the team leaders in several categories, sitting second in goals, third in points, and tied for third in both power-play points (4) and multi-point games (3). The Nove Mesto na Morave, Czechia native opened the year on an eight-game point streak (6g/6a) — the longest season-opening run of his career.

Acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes on Jan. 24, 2025, Nečas has since recorded 41 points (18g/23a) in 41 regular-season games with the Avalanche and added five points (1g/4a) in seven playoff appearances. He reached 40 points in just 38 games (Oct. 23, 2025), marking the fastest pace to that milestone by any Avalanche player since the franchise relocated to Denver.

In 2024-25, split between Carolina and Colorado, Nečas set career highs with 83 points, 56 assists, and 37 power-play points, while his 27 goals were just one short of his personal best. His 37 power-play points tied for third in the entire NHL last season.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound forward has compiled 339 points (131g/208a) over 452 career NHL games between the Avalanche and Hurricanes. Since becoming a full-time NHLer in 2019-20, he’s produced three 20-goal seasons and two campaigns with 70 or more points, both of which included at least 25 power-play points.
Nečas earned NHL First Star of the Month honors in November 2024, leading all skaters with 22 points (7g/15a) in 15 games and posting a career-best 13-game point streak during that span. That stretch also saw him record several milestones, including his 100th NHL goal (Oct. 24 at Calgary), 300th career point (Jan. 26), and 200th assist (Mar. 27).

After making his NHL debut on Oct. 17, 2017, Nečas played seven games for Carolina the following season and scored his first NHL goal on Oct. 16, 2018, before starring with the Charlotte Checkers (AHL), where he notched 52 points (16g/36a) in 64 games and helped lead the team to a Calder Cup championship.
Internationally, Nečas has been named to Czechia’s preliminary roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics and has represented his country at multiple World Championships, helping Czechia capture gold in 2024, its first in 14 years. He’s also competed in three World Junior Championships (2017–19), where he totaled 18 points (5g/13a) in 17 games and led the 2018 tournament in both assists (8) and points (11, tied).
Overall, Nečas’ blend of skill, consistency, and international experience makes him a cornerstone piece for the Avalanche’s future — and this extension ensures he’ll be part of Colorado’s core for years to come.
