Breaking News: Duke Confirms Major Announcement Regarding 3-key Stars

With the 2025 NBA Draft now less than a week away, Duke’s trio of standout freshmen—are preparing to take the next step in their basketball journeys. So far, the only certainty is top star being projected as the No. 1 overall pick to the Dallas Mavericks. Meanwhile, the other two key prospects are expected to go somewhere between picks four and eight, a range where several potential trades could shake up the draft order.

One such scenario was outlined in a blockbuster deal between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Philadelphia 76ers. In this projection, Philadelphia sends the No. 3 overall pick to New Orleans in exchange for the No. 7 pick and a veteran player like Herb Jones or Dejounte Murray. The Pelicans would then use the third pick to draft Rutgers star Ace Bailey, while the 76ers select Duke’s Khaman Maluach at No. 7.

Philadelphia has reportedly had its eye on Maluach, and selecting the 7’2”, 250-pound center from South Sudan would mark a dramatic shift for the franchise—particularly given the presence of longtime superstar Joel Embiid. Though Embiid signed a three-year, $193 million extension last September (set to begin next season), persistent injuries—especially during the 2024-25 campaign—have raised questions about his long-term future with the team. With over $700 million committed to Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George through 2029, the Sixers could look to reshape their roster and reduce financial strain.

Drafting Maluach would send a strong signal that Philadelphia is preparing for life after Embiid. Despite the potential controversy, Maluach’s fit in Philly is intriguing. The 76ers boast a solid backcourt with Maxey and Jared McCain, alongside contributors like Lonnie Walker IV, Ricky Council V, and possibly Quentin Grimes—if they re-sign him this offseason.

Adding Maluach, one of the most athletic big men in this year’s draft, would immediately bolster the Sixers’ frontcourt. Known for his ability to run the floor, protect the rim, and thrive in pick-and-roll situations, Maluach would address a major need for Philadelphia, which ranked among the league’s bottom five in defense last season. His presence could transform the Sixers on both ends of the court, making him a potential franchise cornerstone as they prepare for a new era.
