Breaking News: Duke men’s basketball make ‘stunning’ new coach announcement

Evan Bradds has been named an assistant coach for the Duke men’s basketball team, as announced by the program.

Bradds comes to Duke from the NBA’s Utah Jazz, where he served as an assistant coach since 2022 and also led their Summer League squad in 2023. He fills the vacancy left by Jai Lucas, who recently accepted a position at Miami after two years with the Blue Devils.

“It’s a true honor to be joining Duke basketball, and I’m incredibly thankful to Coach Scheyer for the chance to be part of this historic program,” said Bradds. “I’m eager to collaborate with Coach Scheyer and contribute to Duke’s storied legacy.”

A standout player at Belmont University from 2013 to 2017, Bradds led the NCAA in field goal percentage as a sophomore, shooting 68.8%. He earned Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year honors twice and was named a third-team All-American in 2016.

Originally from Jamestown, Ohio, Bradds also worked two seasons as a video assistant with the Boston Celtics after coaching with their G League affiliate, the Maine Red Claws.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Evan and his wife, MacKenzie, to Durham,” said head coach Jon Scheyer. “Evan has a brilliant basketball mind, valuable NBA development experience, and a strong ability to connect with players—an essential part of our program’s identity. His innovative mindset and experience will help keep Duke at the cutting edge of college basketball. We’re excited for what lies ahead.”
