BREAKING NEWS: Duke Stun’s Fans With a Groundbreaking Jon Scheyer Announcement

Jon Scheyer just capped off the kind of year that makes athletic directors open their wallets. The Duke Blue Devils head coach led his team to a 35-4 record in 2024-25 — his first 30-win season and Duke’s best finish in ten years.

It wasn’t just about the wins, either. Duke steamrolled through ACC competition with a 19-1 record, claiming both the regular season and tournament crowns.

When Jon Scheyer succeeded Mike Krzyzewski in 2021, he stepped into one of the most pressure-packed jobs in college basketball. His first season at the helm delivered a solid 27-9 record, a third-place finish in the ACC, and a trip to the Round of 32.

Year two brought more of the same on paper — another 27-9 mark — but with clear progress. The Blue Devils climbed to second in the ACC standings and made a deep run to the Elite Eight.

Last season, though, Scheyer took things to another level. With freshman phenom Cooper Flagg leading the charge, Duke stormed to a 35-4 record, sweeping the ACC regular season and tournament titles before their campaign ended in the Final Four against Houston.

In just three seasons, Jon Scheyer has compiled an impressive 89-22 record at only 38 years old. The national championship has eluded him so far, but Duke is once again firmly entrenched among college basketball’s elite heading into the 2025-26 season.

By the time his new deal runs its course, Scheyer will have spent nine years guiding the Blue Devils — an impressive tenure in its own right, though still a far cry from Mike Krzyzewski’s extraordinary 42 seasons at the helm.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello and Pete Thamel, Scheyer has agreed to a six-year deal that runs through the 2030-31 season. While financial details haven’t been revealed, the new agreement adds two years to his previous contract, which was set to expire after the 2028-29 campaign.

Coach K built one of the greatest dynasties in sports history, capturing five national titles and establishing the gold standard for success in Durham. Scheyer’s challenge now is to sustain that legacy — and perhaps, one day, add his own chapter to Duke’s storied tradition.
